Electric incident ignites bedding in Wigan, UK - Derwent Avenue - Limited material damages

The bedroom of a Wigan home was gutted by fire on Sunday 29th March 2009 around 12.45pm. The smoke-filled building proved to be empty and the blaze was brought under control within five minutes. The bedroom from where the fire originated suffered 100% damage from the blaze. The rest of the upper floor is smoke-damaged. The occupants were not at home when the fire started. The blaze is believed to have been caused by an electric fire which had been left on close to bedding, which then ignited. "We dragged the damaged furniture outside, but possessions can be replaced and we are just pleased when it is not bodies we are dragging out."
