One killed by an electric fire spread to an armchair in Harwood, Northumberland, UK - 1 dead

Irene Perry, a 90 year old widow has died on Tuesday 24th March 2009, around 5pm, after an electic fire sparked a blaze at her home. She had been in the intensive care unit at the Royal Bolton Hospital after being found unconscious at her house in Harwood on Monday morning, the 23th March 2009. Firefighters were called the house by Mrs Perry’s support carer, who discovered her during a regular morning visit at around 8.15am on Monday. The fire started when an armchair caught fire after an electrical defect.
